I just received a reply from Mass Wildlife and it doesn't look good:

According to Dr. Tom French, Assistant Director, the animal you own would require a permit to possess in Massachusetts as described in CMR 9.01. Permits are not issued for the keeping of non-exempt species as pets.

You may follow-up directly with Dr. French by contacting him at the Westboro Field HQ (number below).

Valley District, Belchertown 413.323.7632
Central District, West Boylston 508.835.3607
Northeast District, Acton 978.263.4347
Southeast District, Bourne 508.759.3406
Field Headquarters, Westboro 508.792.7270

I'm sorry to be the bringer of bad news. I guess if it were me I'd take Bobl's advice but it really sucks to have to break the law to keep a pet. I guess Mass is off the list of places to live :-(
