Could it be a texas cooter (Pseudemys texana)?
If I could see the turtle, I'm sure I could tell you what it is. Can you send a picture, or do you get to Austin?
: I found a 2 1/2 inch map turtle at Red Bluff Creek this weekend(outside of San Antonio by Pipe Creek). I "rescued" him from a high use area and feel he may have been killed otherwise...my opinion. I have not been able to determine the exact sub-species, however. It is similar to Cagle's and similar to the Texas map, but not identical. Could it be a hybrid? It eats large amounts of water plants I have provided for it but has so far rejected tubifex worms, chicken pieces and fish.It is a very striking creature and I wish I could locate a photo of one identical.I have taken a good picture of it with my Digital camera, shall I send it? Would appreciate a reply. Thank you. Lance Gill
