Snake Identification

I live in south Austin and my yard backs up to a small greenbelt. This evening I found a rather large snake in my shed. It was black with small yellow bands. I could not see its head, but it looked to be around 2.5-3 feet. It was about 2-3 inches in width. I think it might be a species of kingsnake, but I'm still scared of it because of its size. I have a three year old child and two small dogs, and I assume a bite would definitely hurt! What is the best way to get it to find a new home? I do not want to kill or injure it.
