Texas Tortoise Found

A resident of my neighborhood gave me a Texas Tortoise after finding it walking down his street. It appears to be an older male tortoise and weighs about 15
pounds. He is very active during the day and has been roaming around my large back yard for about a week. I have been making a number of vegetables available
which he has been taking in quantity while he roams. I understand that these creatures are protected in Texas and while I consider myself capable of providing a
decent (car free) backyard environment for him, I am interested in either obtaining any permit required for posession or setting him up with a wildlife reserve. I live in
the Austin, TX area. Any advice?
