I live in a fairly new subdivision (2 years old) in far NW Austin, not far from RR620. I saw a snake on my entry walkway this afternoon and would like to have it identified. It was only 18-20 inches long, had mottled white/black or dk. brown sides and was black or dk. brown on top with a vivid orange stripe running down its back. I'm concerned to know if it is venomous as we have small children in the neighborhood. Our house does back onto a park, which was recently mowed. Any info would be appreciated.
