We've got more to go on then speculation. For captive snakes we know what generally applies to snakes in the wild can be thrown out the window. It may take a male atrox three years to reach sexual maturity in the wild depending on local conditions, prey abundance, hunting strategies, etc. Then again, it could take longer or not quite as long. In captivity male atrox can be raised quickly and successfuly breed somewhere around a year of age. When it comes to a minimum size I would have to agree with Jaffo in that males can successfully breed at fairly small sizes. I won't touch the issue of how long a female has to be to be sexually mature.
