My husband had his first hot when he was 14 (copperhead) and he's now "middle-aged", never been bitten, still has the fascination of reptiles, and still keeps hots. (His mother's only warning was, "If anything escapes, they all have to go!") If you're serious, and careful, you should be able to work, competently, with venomous, especially in 7 more years.
