It is best to inject the snake with formalin (10% formaldehyde solution) and then either soak it in a jar of formalin or put it in a plastic tray with paper towels draped over the animal and a little bit of formalin in the tray (coil the animal with either method with the head being on the inside). This way the animal is completely surrounded by formalin. Leave it in solution until the animal is "fixed" (about 48 hours usually) and then wash the animal off with 70% ethanol and store in a jar filled with 70% ethanol so that the animal is not in contact with the air. Snakes will store a VERY VERY long time using this method.
