THE OREGONIAN (Portland, Oregon) 27 November 02 Gresham man treated after rattlesnake bites him (Joseph Rose)
A pet rattlesnake bit a 33-year-old Gresham man Tuesday night, requiring him to undergo an antivenin treatment at Legacy Emanuel Hospital & Health Center, authorities said.
Police said the unidentified man was bit inside his home about 10:30 p.m. "It was not a critical injury," said Vern Hilt, a supervisor with American Medical Response.
Hilt declined to say where on the body the man was bitten. As for the snake, police would say only that it was "contained."
It is the second time in a little more than a week that Emanuel Hospital has treated a pet rattlesnake bite. The hospital usually gets one rattlesnake bite patient a year.
Last week, Matthew D. George, 21, of Yacolt, Wash., nearly lost his life after he was bit on the upper lip while trying to kiss a rattlesnake he brought home from Arizona.
