I was actually refering to the transition in color from the body to the tail. I'm sure you have notice the variation both between populations and between individuals. Some populations /individuals have tails that just make an abrupt change to black just behind the vent. Others gradually darken to gray banding and then to black. A few just have black and gray banding on the tails. The molossus /basiliscus transition snakes around Alamos can have tails like that also.
