Excellent job, I too enjoy making my own cages. Just wanted to make two points:
1) On the glass edges, you can tape them as you did or go over them with heavy grade sand paper too.
2) Regarding the "dam" on the cage bottom. I have seen nice cages were the dam is set in a couple inches and then a heavy screen (prefforated steel) comes back toward the face of the tank. In section you would see a 2" x 2" upside-down "L" at the bottom front of the cage. This allows for nice circulation with ventalation from the bottom as well as top; and allows for real substrate depth without interfering in your opening of the cage.
