I've heard that they aren't the best as far as heat goes, but maybe that is only when you are talking about boas.
I've heard that they don't get up to a high enough temp if your abient room temp is lower than 77F. But then again this could just be concerning boas, since I do know they need higher temps than corns.
Building your own rack would definitely be cheaper than buying one of the boaphile racks, unless whoever you have build them would charge an arm and a leg.
You're sure you don't have someone in your family or a friend that's handy with tools that could help you build a rack? Maybe I'm just lucky, but almost everyone in my family is a tool/construction freak, so I just ask around and whoever isn't busy at the moment does the job for me.
