They do this to clear out old semen that may have old or dead sperm in it to make way for the fresher and more populated semen. After copulation, any semen between the testes and the terminus of his pene does not go out or back in. It stays in there. Sometimes, before a breeding event, they push this out to help ensure that the freshest semen is used for the eminent copulation.
