While hypo seems to reduce the width of the borders, that is not all there is to be a hypo. Many normal snakes, like my w/c normal have thin borders.

If you look at the pic of the hypo okeetee, you'll notice that in addition to the borders being not as thick, the 'black' is not really black at all, but a faded purple color. The faded black is the telling point whether the snake is hypo or not.
