I have 2 zoomed repti-temp 500R's, one ESU reptile thermostat and a few light dimmers used as rheostats.

I have found that they all work quite nicely.

Here's a big however: You need to use a digital thermometer with any of these. The zoo-med one doesn't show temperatures ... just color shades, so you'll need a digi-therm for that one. The ESU one has temps on it, but the dial is very small and despite the numbers, you really can't see what temp its at.

For any rheostat, you have to remember that it will control the amount of electricity going to the device. So if you get it steady at, say, 90 degrees, and then the ambient room temp goes up (as will happen as summer approaches), then your devices will heat up also. The rheostat doesn't turn off the device if it gets too hot.

But a digi-therm again will allow you to control it ... when you're there.

Hope this helps.

Joel

:I'm getting ready to build a rack system and was curious what type of thermostats those that have built some use. I was looking at Helix, but someone suggested using a water bed thermostat and I was wondering if anyone has used one abd what their experiences were.

:Thanks,
