:Is breeding a male hype to a female sunglow the only way to find out if it has the sunglow has the hypo genes? If not, would you just get normals het for hypo/het for amel? just curious
If you are trying to determine the genetic makeup of a female sunglow and can't tell from her parentage, then yes...the only way to see if she is hetero or homozygous for hypo is to test cross her, preferrably to a male homozygous for hypo. Of course, as long as you are test crossing, you may as well test for a few other things as well. :) You can use a ghost motley male and test to test for anery, motley, and hypo at the same time, or any other male that is homozygous for hypomelanism.
If the sunglow is a hypo as well, when bred to a hypo male she should throw all hypos at the very least, and who knows--you may get a surprise.
