In Reply to: Cornsnake requirements.... posted by twinsmom on April 25, 2003 at 06:19:33:
I would buy the Cornsnake manual by K. Love at some point. Some basics for care that I use-
Cage size: 10-40 gallon depending on size/age of the corn, secure top
Temps: 70-85 (nightime to basking)
Humidity: 40-50%
Heat: under tank heater (30% of floor area)
Bedding: Aspen (1-3inches deep)
Food: Rats and mice of appropriate size (1-1.5X thicknes of snake)
Two hides, one at cool side, one over heat pad, and a good sized water dish so that the snake can submerge complelety. This should get you going . . . good luck.

:Hello all! Im planning to get my first snake, a cornsnake. Before purchasing, I want to learn all that I can. Do they have any special requirements? Anything they like? Dont like? Im experienced with lizards, but this will be my first snake. Also, I read on M. Kaplans sight that they dont need lights. Do I just need a heat pad? I'll be lost without all the basking lights, UV lights, etc! lol
:Thanks for any advice you can share!
