I think it's mice that do that. I've never seen my rat do that. Some animals actually enjoy eating their own poop, elephants, iguanas, and... dunno I knew more, forget.

My rat does a funny thing when someone farts. She'll go up to the person if he/she's sitting down, and sniff their butt (I let my rat roam the house, she's got a sleeping chamber and litter box in the kitchen). I think dogs do this too. I remember reading somewhere that they do this because it smells good to them. Wierd huh?

:My mice always had an affinity for doing their business in their food bowl. Although I think it was just that bowl in particular. I moved it over to the corner, and they all started using it for their potty and I just put in another brand new food bowl.

:Yeah, rodents sometimes eat their own waste. I think it's some mineral or nutrient they're lacking in their diet. Usually they'll not do it when you get one of those brown mineral wheels for them to lick.
