Actually, I use pool filter sand and find the quality a bit more suitable to my liking. The qualities I like about it are...

1) It is a bit cleaner than the playsand I have purchased
2) The granule size is much larger and rounder than playsand.

Although it is quite a bit more expensive, I think it is worth the extra money. I think it runs about $9.00 for a bag, whereas playsand can usually be purchased for under $3.00. I think I use maybe two bags a year...so that comes out to a whopping savings of approx. $12.00 a year...not a big deal in my opinion.
