ANY experience is better than no experience. even if you pick up some kind of gecko or something quite easy to take care of and keep it for 6 months to get used to it. you may find that it is easy to get side tracked from your new friend and he will be more difficult to keep than you thought because it won't keep your interest anymore. try to keep on top of things and keep it's home as neat and beautiful as possible and it will make it much easier for you with a chameleon. i would also like to recommend a water dragon weather it be chinese or australian. they're also great pets along with most geckos and beardies. good luck
