Sorry John, I didn't mean to imply that you use night lights. I was just tacking that on to the message for his information. The idea of suggesting a "standard" light wattage has gone around on other cham forums too, and it caused problems. The other forum members usually decided it was not a good idea. Most newbies (who are asking these kinds of questions) will not think of moving the bulb farther away from the cage top until the cham has already gotten burned. It is always safer to tell them to get a good thermometer and measure the basking area temp and to start with lower power bulbs. As many of us use "regular" easy to get bulbs instead of fancy heat spots this is not too hard to handle. Most homes have 40, 60, 75, even 100w bulbs around. FWIW I don't think I've ever used a 100 watt on any cham species, even my veiled.
