Hi-

Well veild chameleons are know for there temper, and every chameleon has its own personality. I keep panther chameleons and the way I tame them is by hand feeding them. The best thing is to get a young chameleon so that as it grows it get use to you. I have a Nosy Be male that I got as a baby (my first chameleon) and when I first got him he did not like me near him at all. I would hand feed him crickets, silkworms, and mealworms and now he is so use to me that he know that when he see me he will get food, and he knows it is me, and will run away if anyone else trys to take him out of his cage. I dont hand feed him all his food, but I always give him a treat after I am in the cage doing something, take him out of his cage, or put him outside to sun. He has never hissed at me opened his mouth and get pissed off since. This took about 2 months after I got him. Since then evey new panther I get I do the same thing with and it works like a charm, but the Nosey Be is the most tame chameleon I have out of 6. The females seem to take more time to tame, but over time they calm down. I also got a wild cought pair of Ambilobe panthers and WC are know for not being tame since they are raised up in the wild, did the hand feeding and they will now go right on my hand with no problems. I do not abuse this and hold them every day, I only hold them/take them out of there cages when I need to clean, move them outside, examin them, and so on... If you take advantage of this it will not work. If this is a new chameleon, give it time to settle in at least 1 week before you try hand feeding. Hope this helps!

:ok i have a veiled male - about 5-6 months old, but he seems WAY scared of me and hates me for some reason!!!!!! i feed him, i give him everything but he still hates me...:(....he runs from me when i passs his cage, if i open the cage he will either run or puff up and hiss....i take him out every so often to bring him outside...he tried to hide from me behind my own arm, and when i get outside he gets a really dark color, flattens down and gets skinny, and stares at me...when i try to get him back inside, he holds on and opens his mouth at me and wont let me near him...what am i doing wrong? how can i fixs this? thanks :( david
