Chameleons, like all lizards and snakes are diapsids. They have two holes in the skulls. Unlike most lizards, Chameleons don't have the membrane covering on each side of the head region. This does not mean they dont hear. They just dont have the openings for the ears. They do pick up sounds and vibrations and thus do have a sense of hearing.
