Thanks for posting this. I started the initial discussion, but I didn't know that MA so explicitly denied giving permits for pets. Basically, they're forcing chameleon keepers to break the law and providing absolutely no recourse. Luckily, most breeders aren't particularly concerned with the state's irrational laws. Most will ship to MA. Obviously if you decide to keep a banned pet in MA, you incur some risk. But keeping a chameleon is not a felony and...well...it's an expensive hobby anyway. The chances of being caught and fined are low, but there is still a chance...although it's a chance I imagine most chameleon owners are willing to take.

The true insanity of these laws, as they apply to chameleons, is that nearly all the chams on the market are captive bred by responsible breeders, while their natural habitats are being destroyed in natura. Breeders, most whom rigorously maintain wild blood lines, are actually preserving species' that may be gone from the wild sooner rather than later. Not that PETA believes in such logic...
