As with any reptile there is no sure way of estimating age. Carpets can reach sexual maturity at the age of 2-3 years of age. An adult Jungle is around six feet in lenth. In saying your snake is probably close to two but thats just a very rough guestimate.
As far as determining sub-species again there are no real set indicators for Carpets. Some go by color, scale count and the lastest I've heard is whether the snake's nassel scales are black or brown. None of these are proven methods. If you baught it as a Jungle that is more than likely your best indicator that it is such.
Best of luck,
Darci
:I'm new to pythons, and recently purchased what I think is a Jungle Carpet (that's what the pet store said, and it resembles pictures I've seen of other carpet pythons, if not jungle carpets).
:Q. How can I determine if mine is a Jungle Carpet vs other carpet species.
:Next question - the snake I purchased is right around 4 foot long. What methods can I use to estimate the age of my snake?
:Thanks!
