These were coveted for years by European reptile breeders before the self-balasted versions came out.
There are some key differences, but not significant enough for you to not use what you already have.
I think the product you have does have a thicker shield that will block some of the UV compared to the self-balasted versions. This should make them safer than the reptile bulbs, though.
I'm not sure if I'm absolutely correct about this. I looked into "regular" mercury vapor bulbs many years ago and that's what I'm going on.
