For soil you are going to want something with no perlite or added chemicals. Buying a brick of bed a beast or eco earth or related product and potting the plants yourself will do a lot better. You are going to want to rinse the plants roots off to get all the stuff off, as well as washing the leaves. Some good plants are Pothos, english ivy, pineapple draceana, and other ivy work really well.
