I appreciate all the great info. I want to build some cages/racks that has some style that I could keep in my living room. I'll have to go to a cabinet supply shop and see what I can come up with.

Thanks again,
Frank Hayden

::::Does Melamine come in any othe color besides white?
::::Thanks,
::::Frank
::: YES there are numerous color varations available BUT not at your local home depot or lowes stores these would be more of a speciality item and could be found in the yellow pages under cabinet makers - cabinet supplies/suppliers they make colors and all different typwe simulated wood grains

::This is true as far as different colors but the wood grains are not melamine.

:Thank you for the correction , i should have been more specific in what i posted .Whaqt should have been tossed in is the fact that if you are looking for different colors esp: wood types , granites or colors that may look like solid surface materials you can get Formica or Wilsonart Laminates from a cabinet supplier/supply house which can with a little reading of directions can be APPLIED over a much cheaper particle board which is the same as a melimine board without the keyingredient Meleimine ... which is the coating applied to the particle board.
:The Laminates can be easily trimed or cut with a proper tooth sawblade or router with a flush trim bit ( preferebly with a ball bearing guide this reduces burnouts in the edge) when using a saw on a laminate always use a masking tape mark your lines on that and then cut this will keep the cut from chipping flaking etc. The laminates are applied one of two ways . One is a water based product which can be rolledon with a short nap roller or the higher oil based which has higher fumes to it either will work water based may be preffered due to odors when applying. its also handy to buy a $10-12 J-Roller to apply pressure to the laminate when glueing.The laminates have many more styles colors and looks to them and will definately give you a much more water resistant surface which would also make the cages 200% more durable then melemine can ever attempt to be . if you would like any more info or help in attempting that let me know ill be glad to lend moral support .. lol
