You have to seal the edges for any herp cage. Depending on the species, you may even need to seal the surfaces as well. Melamine does not hold up well to moisture.
I've sealed it with contact paper for racks, but generally don't use it for full cage applications if it won't hold up.
2. is it made in 8*4 sheets?
No. Melamine coated particle board is made 1" over-length at 49" x 97". This is convenient if you're trying to build a cage that will comfortably hold a 4' florescent light fixture.
3. and how much does a 8*4 sheet weigh?
94 pounds, I believe.
