I've heard of it being a problem for hatchlings, dehydration leading to death. I use sanichips or paper towels for my hatchlings. I do use carefresh for juvies on up to adults but I mix it 50-50 with pine shavings. The absorbency and odor control that it offers is very good, especially at this time of year when I am feeding heavy. I get the benefits without all the cost and cleanup is easy. I pay about $14 for the large bag at a local feedstore. If anyone knows of a better price in the Los Angeles / San Fernando valley area, please let me know.

::Iv'e heard that this may be too drying for hatchling snakes. My 02 P.d.deppei baby is in a 15 gall screen top with about 2 inches of this stuff. He has a water bowl at all times, Temps about 80. Should I change the carefreesh out for aspen.Any response would be appreciated.
::Thanks, Dave
