If possible it would be a good idea, but according to what I read, it has been tried with a 70-80 percent fatality rate, and requires an incision taking up about 1/3 of the snake's length(at least in females). Another thing to investigate during a necropsy when a snake dies? Maybe by examining dead ones a simpler way can be found.
