Shedding Problem

Hello, my juvenile sonoran gopher shed today and it was a complete shed except for the eyecaps. I've kept plenty of snakes in my life, but i've never had a problem with the eyecaps coming off. I know not to try to pull them off, I don't want to injure the little guy. Does anyone have any advice on getting them off? I heard of using a damp Q-tip to try to slide them off, but he is so squirmy, I dont know if i'll be able to get at it.
