This is very common behavior for male pine snakes, indigo snakes also. Both my lodingi and "intergrade" males exhibited the behavior last season... I let them mate outside ... plenty of space. I would not characterize it as a little biting, it was fairly aggressive, but caused no harm. This is obviously a "control" issue for the males. There have been documented deaths in female indigo snakes due to mating.
