Have you tried just placing the f/t hopper in his cage and leaving it there overnight? Or, if he's not too big, placing him and the f/t hopper in a paper bag, securing the top, and leaving him alone with his prey for awhile? Sometimes snakes can easily get distracted from dead prey and by leaving them alone or being placed in a situation where it's just them and the food item they'll usually get the hint after awhile. I had to do that with my Cape gophers which were very shy feeders initially. They still don't like a lot of distraction come feeding time, but are getting better.
