Pacific Gopher

I heard,don't know for sure maybe someone can help.Is it true that the pacific gopher is actully a cross between two different gopher subspecies,the sandiego and somethine else.Or is it just the blotched pattern pacific that might be mixed and the stripped the true pacific.
