I don't live in CA. so I don't know what's most common there, but I do know that San Diego Gophers are my favorite. In my experience they are very easy care for. Mine were both captive bred and I got them as babies, around a foot. My female was much more aggressive at that age than the male. But now at four feet she is very tame. I also have Sonoran Gopher, I got this one when he was one, it took "A LOT" longer to get him used to being handled by me. In conclusion, get captive bred and born if you can, and a baby if you can, don't worry they grow FAST. Also, I don't think it matters what kind of Pit you get, there are all kinds, just get the ones that you like the best. You should check out Envy Reptiles, Cheryville Farms, and I believe Isis Reptiles is in CA. All have nice ones on their websites. Good Luck.
