The columbian will get alot bigger then the ball python, most female columbian boas can reach about 10 feet. I have kept ball pythons, but got out of them for bigger snakes. But I keep many boas right now, and I would say you would be alot better off starting with the ball python. They will be cheeper, much easer to handle, and alot safer around small kids (I would be a little uneasey about keeping a large boid around small kids). And a ball pythons diet is alot cheeper, becuse you can pay as much as 3-4 bucks a meal on the columbians for rats, or only a buck a week for a mouse for the BP.
