In Reply to: how much should my turtle weigh? posted by valerie on April 21, 2003 at 21:29:03:
:I have a female 3 toed box turtle. I decided to weigh her, she was weighed once before at the vets but i don't remember the number. She weighed 230grams, is this what they are supposed to weigh? She is rather small(her shell is about 4inches)
My anal-retentiveness clamors to point out that grams measure mass, not weight. :)
My willingness to hear other peoples' opinions leads me to share mine: My 3-toed has a carapace length of 5.42 inches and she weighs around 16.5 ounces (I say "around" because this year alone it has fluctuated between 16.0 and 17.2).
My ornate has a carapace length of 4.13 inches and she weighs around 10 ounces (between 9.5 and 10.6).
Both my turtles are female and I've had them for over 20 years. I weigh them every couple of days.
