since you mention it... I realize that the female PrettyBoy likes most (LittleGirl) is what I would describe as close to the dullest in her pen as well, she has no color on her skin, and only a dull yellow on her shell, but she IS definitely the most reliable breeder... she's laid eggs every year, even during the move when the other females stressed and retained or laid in water, etc. I kind of always figured it was because she was the focus of his attentions so much, but maybe that is true and maybe PrettyBoy has some other way of knowing she is a "good mother" and thus prefers to breed with her.
