in my outdoor pens, one thing I've done is take a potted fern and set it on a plastic stepping stool. The fern hangs to the ground around the stool, making a leafy cave underneath, and the turtles can't destroy the roots of the fern (they could destroy tips of leaves, but they never did). One way to make a nice humid hide spot and have a nice plant without it being ruined.
