I would also attempt to feed an adult f/t mouse and see if he'll take that. I know that his size would lead you to assume he's used to eating rats, but while working at a pet shop years ago I had quite a few people come in to purchase 4 or 5 mice for their med.-larger boids claiming that their snake wouldn't eat rats. Of course after informing them of scenting they were able to easily switch them over.
