:During a prolonged stay in Costa Rica earlier this year, I managed to observe - among other species - a couple of Boa constrictor imperator in the wild. I observed one of these - a neonate - catching and swallowing an adult bronze-backed climbing skink (Mabuya unimarginata). These pictures were taken in Cahuita in the Limon Province, right on the Carribean coastline. This animal was actually found within about 20ft or so from the ocean. The ground cover was so thick that the animal literally disappeared before your eyes if you didn't keep them focused on the animal.

:Other interesting finds included several eyelash vipers (Bothriechis schlegelii), such as the specimen pictured. Despite their seemingly obvious golden coloration, these snakes - the locals refer to them as oropels - blend into their immediate environment amazingly well, and are easily overlooked in the magnificence of the jungle. This particular picture was actually taken at nighttime in pitch black darkness, withone hand holding the camera set on autofocus, while the other hand was holding a cigarette lighter to create minimum lighting for photography - all while yet keeping the hand holding a significant heat source out of striking range :)
