I am going to have to side with your mom on this one. Boas are indeed nice animals but they get big. Stop and think for a moment, is a big snake what you really want? The cute little guy in the photo above is pushing 8 foot. I feed him rabbits when I get them. Pre-killed. I also feed him large rats, also pre-killed. Ever try to kill a rabbit? It is NOT an easy thing to do. Nor is breaking a rats neck. Feeding live food is asking for trouble.
A large rat cost me 6 bucks here, the small rabbits are about 10. Keeping boas requires Space, time and dedication.
Don't get me wrong boa constrictors are awesome animals, I have three right now (the adult male shown and 2 juvies) and hope to add one or two more when the time comes. I love boas, but because of space, I cannot get all the boas I want.
Give it time. Wait a while. Perhaps if you wait long enough and save you can make your first boa an albino!
