I'm a college girl with snakes too :-) Although I'm soon to be a regular girl with snakes (I'm graduating in a couple of weeks). Anyways, I never had any reptiles while I was growing up. My parents aren't big animal-people but we did have some furry animals. I had hamsters, rabbits and after LOTS of begging, a dog while I was growing up. I also remember catching crickets, grasshoppers and earthworms and keeping them in old tennis ball cans. Once, we caught this lizard and kept it for a day or so before letting it go. But my dad and mom were both scared of snakes so I was never allowed to have one.
But once I went off to college...well lets just say that now I work at the East Bay Vivarium and have CUT BACK my collection to 7 snakes (6 of them are boas) and will be adding three more boas to my collection soon. I also have a dog and a cat. However, this is all at my apartment in my room and not at my parents although I believe they would be okay with my snakes now since I've helped them get over their fears :-)
