Carpet is fine, others that use carpet have more than 1 precut piece available.. so when the snake defecates they can replace it while washing the dirty piece. You can also try that fake grass stuff.. thats also cheap.

: Right now I have that forrest floor junk in my tank and I notice that every time i mess around in there I get little slivers. So i guess my snakes are getting slivers too. I am going to change subtrait and my question is would regular carpet be okay to use? Can I wash carpet and have it keep it's form. The reson I want to use carpet is the colors, and it is pritty inexpensive. So any info/advice you guys/gals have would be cool thanxs. David
