Hmm. Seems like you already know. Simply wait. If the fifty buck price tag is a drain on your resources, then you'll be up the creek if the animal needs veterinary care. It may be best to save up some funds for that purpose and set them aside, or perhaps look into a more hardy, slightly less expensive species.
