:The Petcos around me keep their herps very well! I was suprised that they had the temperature regulated using large air conditioning heating things, they always keep species seperate and they seem pretty healthy. I got my baby Whites Tree Frog from Petco and he is growing pretty fast and eating well.
It is a matter of *corporate* Petco policy that uromastyx be housed with water (increases the humidity in the cage, resulting in lung and fungal infections), with a heat rock (a mortal sin with uros, whose skins have no pain receptors and literally cook themselves to death on them) no basking lamp (which means that the uros must rely on the heat rocks to provide the heat they crave). All Petcos are required to do these things! The ones near me use calci-sand (which causes painful and often fatal intestinal obstructions in uros) as their substrate. They defend themselves by saying that they know these things are wrong, but that it's easier to answer complaints from the few who know what they're talking about than the many who do not.
Diseases run rampant through the reptile stock at Petco. They simply don't know what they're doing, especially with uros, and the need to be prevented from killing and harming more animals.
