A blue tongue skink can be a wonderful pet lizard. Not overly demanding: they don't require live food, but enjoy it, and can eat a wide variety of foods. Most become very tame, or are tame right out of the box. Unlike some of the smaller lizards, you don't have to worry about crushing a BTS when you pick it up. They make a good size pet (1.5-2'), and don't get so large at maturity that you have to find a zoo to take it off your hands. Of the more common species available, I have found that the Northerns, and Easterns were the easiest to handle. My Indonesian BTS was feisty, but remember these lizards have individual personalities, so any of them could make a friendly or feisty pet. The photo is of my Northern Blue Tongue.
