A Leopard Gecko is always a fine choice. Gosh, I sound like a Leo salesman today. They are easy to maintain, though you have to give them live food which depending on what you use could mean a trip to the petstore once every 1-2 weeks. Of course, you'd be doing that with a lot of other lizards or trips to the supermarket for greens.

They are pretty good for human handling and do not get very large. If you buy and adult they can be reasonably expensive, but the young Leos are fairly inexpensive. Just make sure you have all of the proper tools and information for care.
