Beardies CAN digest calcisand. It's calcium carbonate just like the calcium carbonate in your mineral supplement. Someone on these forums did a rather flawed experiment where they added a large volume of calcisand to a volume of acid, this then turned into a gooey mess and they concluded that digestive acids could NOT disolve calcisand. They also concluded that it would neutralize stomach acids that were necessary for digestion but neglected the fact that it's the same as the mineral dust they use DAILY with or without vitd3. So why isn't this mineral dust just as bad? Hmmmm.
I've used calcisand for several years now and have not had one case of impaction from it. I've used it with BD's, Leopard Gex and Uro's. The minute quantities that may get ingested are digestible and I've never seen any signs of it in their stools.
Playsand on the other hand is silica based. That means it comes from quartz based rocks. Silica is only dissovable in Hydrofluoric acid and trust me you don't want to mess with this acid as it can be deadly if handled improperly. It comes so highly recommended because its CHEAP at $3.00-$5.00 per 50 lb. bag. I have seen playsand passed through the stools and it looks like little sand sculptures. This, to me indicates a rather large accumilation of playsand before it passes from the system.
I will agree that I don't care for the dyes but that's not because they are unsafe, they are made from human grade food colors, it's because they sometimes will stain the skin. Therefore I only use and recommend the white.
Just an opposing opinion,
